Alright, I thought I’d do a post about what types of chickens we are breeding right now. You’ll see the main rooster and one of the hens (more than likely, it’ll be the best hen). I will be showing rooster followed by hen(s).
Silver Laced Wyandottes
We’re probably the most proud of our Silver Laced Wyandottes (these two especially). I believe these were our first real breeder chickens. They’re the most quiet of all our birds. The rooster rarely crows and his hens are VERY submissive to him. We have a few other hens, but they aren’t quite as great quality as the one pictures above.
Cornish Game Chickens (Indian Game Fowl)
These are our newest addition and they are pretty dang cool! Very small birds that are shockingly heavy. I also love the markings on the hens. It’s like a lacing…within a lacing on some of the feathers! I also like the fact that they’re fairly slow runners, so they’re super easy to catch. It’s holding onto them that can be a trick!
Ameraucauna, Rhode Island Red, & Red Production
These are some of our very first chickens. If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll recognize Spot and Waldo, my first chickens EVER! Honestly, we bought 1 red chicken when we first got here. That’s all I know is that it’s red. Everyone we’ve talked to guesses that it’s a Red Production. I dunno. BUT we also have three RIR hens. These are mostly for our eating egg sales. We hatch out the Ameraucaunas sometimes, but they’re not our major breeders. They’re just plain ol’ COOL!
This wasn’t an especially great blog entry, buuut my finals are due tomorrow and I spent quite a bit of my day chilling with some friends and then attending their son’s graduation. Hope you all had a funky great day!
